A personal comment on the French NO
HCP has the last month made a survey in several EU countries on the subject of healthcare information. It was hard to get anyone to answer questions in France. Mostly people hang up before we had the chance to explain the purpose of the survey with the motivation that they had already decided to vote NO. And now it's all over the news. The NO. Not from the usual suspects up north but from France.

Striking media impact from Swedish Health Consumer Index
The launch Tuesday of the Swedish Health Consumer Index 2005 caused strong immediate mass media respons. Within 12 hrs 75 media around Sweden covered the Index update (first launched in 2004). Among them were all three large TV news programs as well as a number of regional TV/radio broadcasts. Already the first day the outcomes caused a lively debate in many county councils regarding the ratings given the counties.
Already county governments start reacting by promising to improve the consumer information and services, remarks Oscar Hjertqvist, the Swedish Index manager. This is the kind of respons we have been hoping for. To use the index as a tool for service development is a good idea. Here we would be happy to take part in discussions together with the county politicians and administrations.

The Swedish Health Consumer Index 2005: Kalmar county stays at top - Worse access, IT service improv
Also in 2005 the Kalmar county council provides the most consumer-oriented health care. This is the outcome when the Swedish Health Consumer Index 2005 today was published in Stockholm. The lowest point was given to the Uppsala county.
Since the 2004 Index the 21 Swedish councils have improved re consumer-friendly use of IT, as for booking appointments at a distance. The waiting time situation though seems to have grown worse with not one single county being able to treat every referred patient within 12 weeks (the time limit to be used by the national treatment guarantee to start Nov 1 this year).
