"The European health system faces many new challenges. Patients are more involved, want more information and have a greater say in their own well-being", said Dr. Jorgo Chatzimarkakis, German Member of the European Parliament and the founder of the Parliament's Life Science Circle. The keynote presentation will be by Prof. Dr. Harms President of the European Health Care Foundation, who will share his thoughts and experiences on direct access to patient information. Mrs. Lalis, from the European Commission's DG Enterprise, European Commission will respond. Mr. Chatzimarkakis will introduce the discussion. The Life Science Circle is intended to be a policy platform to discuss reform of Europe's health care system. It will also be the forum for the discussion of improved patient conditions in Europe. The main objective of the Circle is thus to bring the EU life science sector forward and turn Europe into the world's 'bio-zone', according to Dr. Chatzimarkakis. The ELSC offers the opportunity to shape the debates in a number of areas including health system infrastructure, preventive medicine, e-health, research and innovation, patents, improved quality in health care giving legislators, decision-makers, stakeholders, patients associations, researchers and industry representatives the chance to influence important developments.
